Poster titled “Voenizatsiia v klube” (Militarization in the club), published by Gosizdat (State Publishing House) in 1930. It depicts women being taught to shoot, and is accompanied by a poem urging working women to learn to use rifles and bayonets in case they have to defend their homeland. According to the historian Alison Rowley, this poster was part of a state campaign encouraging Soviet citizens, both men and women, to take up sports that would increase their military preparedness (see her 2007 article "Sport in the Service of the State").
